A Rapido bike rider allegedly slapped a female passenger in Bengaluru’s Jayanagar area after she confronted him over rash driving and jumping a traffic signal. The incident took place on June 14 and was caught on camera, quickly sparking outrage online.
The woman reportedly questioned the rider’s dangerous behaviour during the ride, which led to a heated exchange and the alleged assault. Jayanagar police have taken cognizance of the incident and confirmed that an investigation is underway.

According to media reports, the victim was initially reluctant to approach the authorities, police said she was eventually convinced to file a complaint.
A non-cognizable report has been registered in the case, but after a video of the incident surfaced online, officials said they are considering upgrading it to an FIR.
The Jayanagar Police Station, which has jurisdiction over the area, is currently carrying out a detailed investigation into the incident.
In a similar incident in April this year, concerns over women’s safety in app-based taxi services came into sharp focus after a Bengaluru woman shared her harrowing experience with an Ola cab driver during a late-night ride.
In a detailed post on X, she alleged that the driver behaved inappropriately and made her feel extremely unsafe during her journey from Kempegowda International Airport to her home around 11 pm.
“People said Bangalore is safe? Last night’s cab ride from the airport was one of the most frightening experiences I’ve ever had,” she wrote.
According to her, the cab driver began staring at her shortly after the ride began. When he asked if she knew Kannada and received a response, he reportedly started playing loud music on YouTube, singing along at the top of his voice while tapping his thighs, making her deeply uncomfortable.
