A British fighter jet made an emergency landing at a Kerala airport on Saturday night, officials said.

A British F-35 fighter plane made an emergency landing at Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram airport on Saturday night, officials said.
They sought permission for an emergency landing at around 9.30 pm, citing low fuel while taking a sortie over the Indian Ocean.
“Normal occurrence of diversion by F-35. IAF is fully aware and has facilitated the aircraft for flight safety reasons. All assistance is being given, and the IAF is coordinating with all agencies,” Indian Air Force officials said.
Experts say the F-35B incident is rare but not unprecedented. The jet is designed for short take-offs and vertical landings, but bad weather may have prevented it from safely landing on the HMS Prince of Wales.
The jet is a part of the UK’s HMS Prince of Wales Carrier Strike Group, which is currently deployed in the Indo-Pacific. It had taken part in the joint drills with the Indian Navy.
The F-35 platform is considered one of the most advanced fighter jet projects in the world today. Its stealth design, electronic warfare systems, and ability to share data in real-time play a key role in the air strategies of the US, UK, Israel, and NATO.
