A man was arrested for digging a tunnel in a rented house to access a Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) pipeline in Jaipur’s Bagru area, PTI reported, citing officials.
A video shared on Instagram captures a startling scene inside the rented flat, where a tunnel had been secretly dug through the floor of a room. The footage shows loose earth and construction debris surrounding a gaping hole leading underground. Visible pipes and tools lie scattered nearby.
The man, identified as Rajesh Urang, was detained in connection with the incident, and a search to apprehend others is underway.
The tunnel extended nearly 25 feet underground. The incident came to light after HPCL officials reported a pressure drop in the pipeline, raising suspicion of theft.
“During the search, a house drew suspicion and was raided. Inside, we found a tunnel that extended approximately 25 feet underground and reached the HPCL pipeline,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Amit Kumar.
A search operation in areas surrounding the pipeline in Bagru is also underway.
The accused drilled the HPCL pipeline and installed a valve and a narrow pipe to extract diesel gradually over several days. When police raided the location, they found multiple drums filled with stolen diesel, a pickup truck, and various tools believed to have been used in digging the tunnel.
During questioning, the main suspect, Urang, disclosed that the entire operation was masterminded by Shravan Singh, a resident of Delhi, along with his brother-in-law, Dharmendra Verma, also known as Rinku, according to police officials.
