Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu announced a formal investigation into the Air India Flight AI171 crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed over 200 lives. The probe will be led by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and conducted in accordance with international protocols established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
“Following the tragic incident in Ahmedabad, a formal investigation has been initiated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, in line with international protocols set by ICAO,” the minister said in an official statement.

“The committee will work to strengthen aviation safety and prevent such incidents in future,” Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu added, emphasizing the government’s commitment to accountability and systemic reform in civil aviation.
UK Sends Investigation Team To India
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the British government is sending an aviation investigation team to India to assist with inquiries and coordinate support for British citizens affected by the tragedy. UK consular officials in India are also working with local authorities and families of the victims, he informed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the crash of Air India Flight AI171 as “heartbreaking beyond words”. He shared that he has been closely monitoring the rescue operations, remaining in constant contact with civil aviation and emergency authorities.
“In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it,” he said, assuring the nation that every possible resource is being mobilized to aid victims and their families and urging a thorough investigation to uncover the cause of the accident.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking from Ahmedabad, said, “The entire country is in a state of mourning,” emphasizing that the government stands firmly with the bereaved families.
Outlining that DNA sampling is underway to identify all deceased, Amit Shah expressed the severity of the situation, saying, “The fire spread so quickly, there was no chance to save anything.”
