Aligarh soap opera: When the woman asked her husband why he had used her soap, he replied saying that she often used his things and he never complained
The police denied all claims of custodial violence.
A simple fight over using wife’s soap led to a murky scenario – an arrest and allegations of custodial and domestic violence — in Quarsi in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh.
It all began when Praveen Kumar, 39, used his wife’s soap on Friday. According to media reports, the woman told police that their argument started as Kumar stepped out of the bathroom after taking a bath. When she asked him why he had used her soap, he replied saying that she often used his things and he never complained.
The fight went for a while and escalated further at which point she called the police, who then took Kumar to the police station. Kumar alleged that the police beat him up over what he called a minor row between the couple.
Quarsi SHO Narendra Sharma told TOI: “We received information that the man had assaulted his wife. He was brought to the police station and a case of disturbing the peace was registered. Investigation is on.”
The couple has been married for 13 years and has two children. The couple was sent for medical examination. Kumar was booked under Section 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which allows arrest without warrant to prevent an offence.
Kumar told TOI: “She often calls police after fighting with me. Thank God, I got bail.”
According to TOI, DSP Sarvam Singh denied custodial violence. “There is a video in which he can be seen misbehaving with the police team. The couple had minor injuries. Both were sent to the hospital for treatment. The accused was charged and produced before the magistrate.”
The police said the woman alleged her husband had a history of harassment and physical abuse.
