IMD Predicts Showers For Delhi Amid Heatwave; Mumbai, Pune Face Waterlogging After Heavy Rains

Delhi-NCR is set to receive rain and thunderstorms, providing relief from the heatwave. Meanwhile, heavy rains in Mumbai and Pune have caused waterlogging and disrupted traffic.

As Delhi and its adjoining areas, including Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad, continue to reel under scorching heat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted some relief for the region.

The IMD has predicted rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, in the national capital for Saturday, following days of intense heatwave. The Delhi-NCR residents can now heave a sigh of relief as the rain will bringing much-needed respite from scorching heat.

As per IMD forecast, the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 42 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature may settle at 30 degrees. Further, no heatwave condition will be witnesses on Saturday. Heatwave conditions are expected to subside in Delhi from June 14 to 17. The sky will remain partly cloudy today.

AQI Turns ‘Moderate’ In Delhi-NCR On Friday

Meanwhile, the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi fell into the ‘moderate’ category on Friday, after remaining ‘poor’ over the last few days. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has reimposed Stage-I of the Graded Response Action Plan (Grap) across the NCR region with immediate effect to fight with rising pollution levels.

Rain Causes Waterlogging In Mumbai, Pune

Further, the rain activity has intensified in several parts of Maharashtra with Mumbai and Pune receiving heavy rains on Friday night. The heavy downpour has caused waterlogging in several areas, making it difficult for people to commute.

Visuals have emerged from the flooded areas where vehicles were seen submerged in rainwater. In one of the videos, people were seen wading through knee-deep waters. The flooded-lanes also slowed down traffic on Friday night.

The MeT added heatwave conditions were witnessed in some states, including Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh, today.

IMD Predicts Heavy Rain In South India

“Today, Heat wave conditions prevailed at many places with severe heat wave conditions at isolated places over West Rajasthan; Heat wave conditions prevailed at isolated places over East Rajasthan, Jammu division, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh,” the IMD tweeted.

Further the weather department has predicted heavy rains in parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka and Goa. A red alert for rain has been issued in these states for Saturday.
