Tata Group Announces Rs 1 Crore To Kin Of Each Air India Ahmedabad Plane Crash Victim

The Tata Group said it will cover medical expenses of those injured and provide support to rebuilding the hostel of BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad

The Tata Group on Thursday announced that it will give Rs 1 crore to the families of each victim killed in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. More than 200 people on board the ill-fated flight going to London, were killed as it crashed into a residential area in Meghaninagar.

According to a social media post, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said the Tata Group will provide Rs 1 crore to the each of the families who have lost their loved ones. All medical expenses of those injured in the accident will also be covered, it said.

Chandrasekaran expressed his grief at the tragic incident involving Air India flight 171, which was carrying 242 people, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members. At least 61 passengers were foreign nationals, Air India said in a statement.

“We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171. No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured,” Chandrasekaran said in a post on X by Tata Group.

“Tata Group will provide Rs 1 crore to the families of each person who has lost their life in this tragedy. We will also cover the medical expenses of those injured and ensure that they receive all necessary care and support,” the post said.

Tata Group said it will also provide support in the rebuilding of the doctors’ hostel at BJ Medical College, into which the plane crashed while students were having their lunch in the mess. “Additionally, we will provide support in the building up of the B J Medical’s hostel. We remain steadfast in standing with the affected families and communities during this unimaginable time,” the post added.

The FAIMA Doctors Association said the wife of a resident doctor was reported to be dead even as four to five MBBS students and three to four relatives of resident doctors went missing. While two to three students are in intensive care, at least 50 students, who were hospitalised, are stable as of now.
